Deep Water Bay Time Trial

Open Water Swimming Race, 1.4 km / 3.0 km Time Trial*
What is Time Trial*?
Time Trial is a race format while each racer starts individually at different time, with a fixed time interval between racers. The time interval will be approximately 1min depending on the numbers of racers who sign up.
Unlike a mass start race , racers swim alone against the clock to secure the fastest time with their own effort, i.e. Drafting is not allowed.
Entry Fee:

1.4 km race: $360 (registration closes on THUR 29th Oct, 2020 6 p.m. or when quota is full)

3.0 km race: $360 (registration closes on THUR 5th Nov 2020, 6 p.m. or when quota is full)

Jaked Swimming buoy (Optional): $180 (Collect on race day)

Declaration of responsibility is required for all racers.

No one should join the race unless he/she is physically fit, is in excellent health condition.
Racers are expects to finish the race within the CUTOFF TIME of 75 mins for 3km and checkpoint CUTOFF TIME of 40 mins at 1400m.
The CUTOFF TIME is 45 mins for 1.4km race, and checkpoint CUTOFF TIME of 25 mins for 750m.
If swimmers unable to reach the checkpoint within time limits, racers will be stopped by the race officials and asked to board the official boat. -
Racers may be asked to provide proof of competence. Racers who fail to provide proof of competence will not be allowed to race.

Racers must obey instructions from kayakers, VRC staff, helpers & personnel of the race. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Racers must obey Social Distance Marshall, who will ensure social distance measures are implemented. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Racers will take full responsibility of their safety during the race.

Wetsuit is not allowed.

Drafting is not allowed at any time. The draft zone is 8 metres from the ankles of the racer in front. Racers who enter the draft zone have 20 seconds to pass the racer in front. Drafting penalty is 6 minutes for 3km race and 3 minutes for 1.4km race.

Safety buoy is mandatory during the entire race.

Swimmers are not allowed to use upstairs bathrooms.

Open Water Swim Series Hong Kong has the final decision over all matters not stipulated here in the rules.

Open Water Swim Series Hong Kong has its sole discretion to reject any entry.
Coronavirus Disease Precaution & Rules

No sick racers should join the race.

Persons under quarantine are not allowed to race.

Racers are only allowed to check-in 30 minutes before their assigned race start time.

Temperature will be taken at the VRC entrance. No swimmers with temperature above 38 degrees are allowed to race.

Hand sanitizers are available at the entrance and at the registration table.

All racers must wear face masks at all times until the start of race. Please prepare an additional mask to be used after the race.

Racers are to gather at the waiting area with members in their waiting groups only. Each waiting group must have a minimum distance of 1.5 m from other waiting groups.

Upon finish of the race, racers must leave the premise immediately.

There will be no award ceremony. Prizes and medals will be mailed to podium finishers.

Racers' safety and observation of law are of our top priorities. Please always exercise vigilance. Non-compliance with the rules will result in immediate disqualification.

Open Water Swim Series Hong Kong reserves the right to final interpretation to the above mentioned rules and regulations.
Race Day Schedule (01/11/2020 and 08/11/2020):

7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Registration
Registration, body mark, sign waiver, bag check, collect safety buoy ( if ordered during sign up), and collect Jaked voucher. Swimmers are only allowed to register 30 minutes before their assigned race start time. For example, if a swimmer's assigned start time is 8:30 a.m., he/she can only register no earlier than 8:00 a.m.

7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Race Start
Swimmers should arrive at their assigned waiting zones at least 10 minutes before their assigned race start times. For example, if a swimmer's assigned start time is 8:30 a.m. and his/her assigned waiting zone is "A," he/she should arrive at Waiting Zone A no later than 8:20 a.m. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Race marshal will lead swimmers to the start line approximately 5 minutes before their race starts. There will be no race briefing. Please familiarize yourself with the race course before race day.

Startlist
Startlist with each racer's bib number, start time and assigned waiting zone will be emailed to racers on 30th Oct 2020 (Fri) for 1.4 km race and 6th Nov 2020 (Fri) for 3km race . It will also be posted on the event page.
Race Course:
3.0km course - VRC start --> Buoy 1 --> Canister 2 --> Buoy 3 --> Buoy 4 --> Canister 5 --> pontoon at VRC --> Run to the finish line. Keep all the buoys on your left side.

The age groups are determined by your age on 31 December 2020.
AG Category for 3km race:
Male/Female 19&Under, Male/Female 20-39, Male/Female 40-49 , Male/Female 50&Above
AG Category for 1.4km race:
Male/Female 19&Under, Male/Female 20-45, Male/Female 46&Above.
There will be no award ceremony. Winners will be contacted through emails, and medals / prizes will be sent to athletes. Please allow additional time for prize processing.
